We are the Franklin County Democratic Committee, the official organizing body of the Democratic Party within the jurisdiction of Franklin County, Virginia. Our purpose is to facilitate and encourage the participation of all Virginians in choosing their elected officials and controlling their political destinies. We welcome the involvement of all who share our goals.

We believe all human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. Each person deserves fair and equal treatment under the law.

We believe in freedom of speech and freedom of religion, without prejudice.

We believe in acting to advance respect for women, preserve women's rights, protect access to reproductive information and care, and provide for equal pay. We will work to stop violence against women and to elect more women to public office.

We believe that every citizen has the equal right to vote and that each vote should be counted equally in our representative democracy. We will continue to work to protect voting rights.

We believe in workers' rights to organize and collectively bargain with their employers for wages and working conditions.

We oppose so-called "right-to-work" laws and all other attempts to curtail workers' rights.

We believe an educated populace is crucial to a free and democratic form of government. Students should have access to high-quality public education through vocational training, college education, or other post-secondary pursuits.

We believe that accessible, affordable, high-quality health care is a right, not a privilege of the wealthy few. We will work to bring the uninsured into coverage and ensure that no one should have to face financial destitution because of illness or injury.

We believe in sensible, reasonable regulation of firearms as called for in the Second Amendment, including the banning of weapons of war.

We believe in the improvement and continued maintenance of our infrastructure including highways, railroads, airports, and the electrical and digital grid.

We believe in advancing clean energy and helping to preserve the environment by enacting legislation to address climate change.

We believe in the preservation and improvement of Social Security to continue to provide financial support for the elderly and infirm.

We believe in enacting a living minimum wage that helps protect the American dream. No one who works should live in poverty.
